Derrick L. Armstrong

Derrick L. Armstrong Sr, of Suffolk, Virginia went to his heavenly home on Monday, January 11, 2021. Derrick was born April 9, 1962 in Mobile, Alabama. He was the youngest of four children that blessed the union of Johnny and Della Armstrong. Derrick accepted Christ at an early age and later joined Central Missionary Baptist Church in Detroit, Michigan. He was educated in the Detroit Public School System and was a graduate of Henry Ford High School. He attended Old Dominion University in Virginia where he studied Contracts Management. Derrick joined the United States Navy where he met and married Hope Lassiter their union was blessed with three sons. Derrick was an entrepreneur where he owned and operated Naval Architect and Marine Engineering "NAAME LLC" until recently retiring the business and took employment with General Dynamics NASSCO-Norfolk as Area Manager. Derrick enjoyed reading anything spiritual and inspirational such as Abraham Hicks and Deepak Chopra. He was also a history buff. Derrick is survived by his sons: Derrick L. Armstrong Jr.(Lacey), Daniel L. Armstrong, and Donte L. Armstrong, Sr. (Hannah); grandchildren Mikhi (Mother, Shaneki Bradley), Donte Jr. and Hope. His fiance Giuseppa Reid (her two sons Tevin and Kevin), his sister Wonga "Faye" Watts; nieces Amber Whittemore, Brandea Watts and grandnephew Darius Phillips; an innumerable host of other relatives, and many friends. He is preceded in death by his parents, wife Hope Armstrong, sister Gloria Phillips, brother Johnny L. Armstrong, niece Tina Phillips, To know and love Derrick was a joy, his charm and vibrant personality will never be forgotten. Derrick enjoyed spending time with his family and was immensely proud of his children’s accomplishments. Derrick was a devoted, loving, and supportive father and grandfather. His spirit will live on with his family and friends. A celebration of life will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, February 20, 2021 in the Melvin J. Blowe Chapel. He will be laid to rest in Roosevelt Memorial Cemetery. Professional services with dignity have been entrusted to Crocker Funeral Home, Inc.
