Mother Delorise Jo Jackson is the only child of the late Mother Mamie L. Fleetwood and the late Mr. James T. Gatling. She was born in Nansemond County, now the City of Suffolk, in 1951. Mother Jackson spent her childhood and part of her adult life in the City of Newport, News Virgina before deciding later to settle in Suffolk.
She established a career as a Certified Nursing Assistant, working for several years before retiring from Maryview Nursing Care Center in Suffolk, VA. Having chosen a career in the medical field, Mother Jackson was able to utilize and express her natural tendencies to nurture and care for others. In her professional and personal life, Mother Jackson's desire to love and help people was freely and often exhibited. Several loved ones and friends could testify of how she would lend a listening ear whenever it was needed.
Mother Jackson's loving attributes were a natural part of who she was. However, those attributes were supernaturally enhanced by God's Spirit through her confession of faith in Jesus Christ. A true love for God and His Word seemed to always burn within her heart. And anyone around her could attest to that burning on the inside because it would produce a dynamic praise or a worshipful song lifted to the Lord.
Mother Jackson loved to sing, and her voice could be described as angelic. Mother Jackson used her love of singing as an offering of praise by volunteering her voice to the chorus of singers in several choirs. It was her pleasure and delight to sing with others. In the latter years of her life, she would join the congregation in song at Faith of Deliverance Church in Suffolk, where she was a member. She, like many, enjoyed the simple things in life. Mother Jackson favored the old western television shows and even enjoyed a favorite snack of potato chips and peach tea. Overall, she was a lovable person with great personality and a relatable humanity.
But on December 04, 2024, Mother Delorise Jo Jackson departed this life and was received into rest in the arms of the Lord. She now rests with her parents Mother Mamie L. Fleetwood and Mr. James T. Gatling. Her memory remains and will be cherished by her children, Kwanbena W. Faulk (Linwood Faulk Jr.), Claude M. Jackson (Denice L. Jackson), and Jason S. Jackson. To carry on her legacy she leaves her grandchildren, Sterling Jackson, Alexis Thomas, Kyiesha Barrett, Symone Jackson, Taliyah White, Caleb Jackson, Jordan Jackson, and Zion Jackson. Her legacy also extends to 3 great-grandchildren.
A celebration of life will be held 11 a.m, December 17, 2024 at True Vine Apostolic Church, 925 Old Buckroe Road, Hampton, VA. She will be laid to rest in Holly Lawn Cemetery. Professional services with dignity have been entrusted to Crocker Funeral Home, Inc.
