Darius Ward

The Ward family circle has been broken again on January 25, 2024 Darius Ward peacefully closed his eyes and slept into eternity at his residence. The youngest of eight siblings, born on December 1, 1968 to the late Alvin L. Ward Sr. and Mamie Lue Jones Ward. 

He was a graduate of John Yeates High School class of 1989 (The Chargers) played on the varsity, basketball team earning himself the nickname the “HAWK”; and he definitely was a 49ER’s fan.  He furthered his education at ITT Technical Institute at the time located in Norfolk, Va. He was a member of the Greater Sweet Beulah Apostolic Church where he remained there. Darius relocated to East Orange, New Jersey, where he met and married the former Monica Williams and from that union a son was born. 

He was employed at the El Bethel Temple in West Orange, New Jersey, Later he relocated back to Virginia where he was employed with the Cold Storage, Producers Peanuts and Nuts for Wildlife in Suffolk, Va.

Darius was the comedian of our family; he kept us laughing with his dancing movement etc. He will truly be missed by his family and friends.

He was preceded in death by his loving mother Mamie Lue Jones Ward, father Alvin Lee Ward Sr.; his brothers Vernon and Ernest Ward; grandparents Dora Kee Ward, Charlie K. Ward, Geneva White Daniel, Chester Daniel Sr. Bishop H.O.Ward (uncle); Bettie J. Daniel (aunt). He leaves to cherish his memories; his loving son Deondre Tyrel Ward of West Orange, New Jersey; five siblings, two loving sisters Barbara Ward Johnson and Racheal Ward Davis of Suffolk, Va., three loving brothers, Alvin Lee Ward Jr., and Rayfield Ward of Suffolk, Va., Charlie K. Ward of Baltimore, MD., three uncles Morris Daniel (Mary), Edward L. Daniel (Gwendolyn), and Jimmy Daniel of  Washington, D.C.,  seven nephews; Quinton Johnson (Sharon), Karron Cooke, Durran Boone (Vanessa), Marcus Johnson (Latoya), Aaron Davis, Johnathan Davis and Darrell Davis (Stephanie), and a host of great nieces, nephews, cousins, friends and a very special devoted girlfriend Sharon Scott.

 A viewing will be held 2-7 p.m. Thursday, February 1, 2024 in the Melvin J. Blowe Chapel of Crocker Funeral Home. A celebration of life will be held 1:00 p.m. Friday, February 2, 2024 at Greater Sweet Beulah Pentecostal Church, 137 Maple Street, Suffolk, VA. Suffragan Bishop Madison G. Copeland will deliver the message of comfort. Professional services with dignity have been entrusted to Crocker Funeral Home, Inc.
