Dareen Elizabeth Harris-Nowell

September 1, 1951 — January 22, 2021

Dareen Elizabeth Harris-Nowell was called home to be with our Lord and Savior on Friday, January 22, 2021 at Autumn Care of Mechanicsville Retirement Home in Mechanicsville, Virginia. Dareen was born on September 1, 1951 in Joliet, Illinois to the late Robert Harris and Delores Burkhart. She graduated from Joliet Central High School in 1971 and later attended Highland Community College where she studied Nursing. She accepted Christ in the early 80s at Eaton’s Temple Holiness Church in Drum Hill, NC and began her journey of becoming a faithful servant for the Lord. She joined New Mount Joy COGIC under the leadership of her Spiritual Parents, the late Bishop William P. Wiggins and Lady Lula Mae Wiggins and served closely to her leaders on several ministries to include the W.P. Wiggins Gospel Choir, Nurse Aides, Ushers Ministry and Community Outreach until she relocated. Upon relocation, Mother Nowell continued in service to the church and community. She joined Higher Way Ministries under the leadership of Bishop Darren L Gay, Sr. and Lady Danielle Gay where she served closely to her leaders on the Mother’s Ministry, Ushers Ministry, Food Services and supported the Youth Ministry. Later she relocated to Richmond, Virginia and became a member of Mount Gilead Full Gospel International Ministries under the leadership of Bishop Daniel Robertson and Co Pastor Elena Robertson where she worshipped faithfully until her health declined. On May 2, 1971, Dareen united in Holy Matrimony with the love of her life, James Edward Nowell, Sr. From this union of 49 years came two of her greatest gifts from God her beloved son and adorable daughter, James and Tamika. Family meant everything to Dareen. She loved family gatherings during the holidays and enjoyed cooking for their many occasions, playing video games with her grandchildren and sharing many words of encouragement and love. She was an avid reader, very organized and loved creating planners and agenda books. Dareen was a wise woman who loved everyone with all of her heart and without any reservations. She loved the Word of God, studied it often and would minister It to whomever she encountered when God placed it on her heart to do so. She greatly impacted the lives of other young ladies, mothers and seniors. Mother Nowell was a true example of God’s Love in the Earth. In addition to her parents, Dareen was preceded in death by her brother, Albert Stewart of Atlanta, Georgia. Dareen leaves to cherish her memories her husband, James E.
