Cynthia Laverne Lundy Diggs was born on August 16, 1964 to Mildred Lundy and the late Joseph Lundy, Jr. Verne passed away on Friday, July 10, 2026 at Sentara Norfolk Hospital.

Verne was born in Southampton County, Virginia. She graduated from Southampton County High School in 1982. She also attended Norfolk State University.

She was a faithful member of Galilee Baptist Church and a former member of the Ushers Ministry.

Verne retired from the Department of Corrections in 2024. She thoroughly enjoyed retirement until her health started failing.

Verne enjoyed life to the fullest. Her many hobbies and enjoyment came from frequenting Williamsburg, VA, shopping at the Yankee Candle Store, lamenating articles from the Tidewater News, feeding the birds, nurturing flowers and plants, looking after senior citizens, riding with Alan around the farm looking at the crops and the cows, and watching Jeopardy and In the Heat of The Night.

Verne married her soulmate in August 1997 and to this union they had one son, AJ. Verne's biggest joy in life came from being a wife and a mother. She loved being the wife of a farmer and raising AJ on the farm. She was so proud of the man that AJ has become and the beautiful young lady who AJ has chosen to be by his side.

Verne is survived by her beloved and devoted husband Alan; her beloved son AJ (Shy and Knox) of Chesterfield, VA; her loving mother, Mildred of Branchville, VA; her two loving sisters, Joyce (Wayne) of Capron, VA; Tammy (Dink) of Boykins, VA; her two sister-in-laws, Stella of Bowie, MD and Barbara Ann of Boston, MA; two brother-in-laws, Larry of Ivor, VA and Milton (Jeannie) of Sedley, VA; two aunts, Ollie of Capron, VA and Mae Cavion of Murfreesboro, NC; four uncles, Ronnie, Charlie (Vicky), Forrest (Florine), and Johnny; numerous nephews, great nephews, nieces, great nieces, who she showered with love, a multitude of cousins (Darlene, "Baye" is fine), friends, and former co-workers who will forever cherish her memory.

A celebration of life will be held 3:00pm, Saturday, July 18, 2026 at Galilee Baptist Church, Branchville, VA. Mrs. Diggs will be laid to rest at Gilfield Baptist Church, Ivor, VA. The family has entrusted Crocker Funeral Home with services rendered with dignity, compassion, and care.
