Curshawn Murtrell Chapman

Curshawn M. Chapman, 47, formerly of Suffolk, Virginia, transitioned peacefully on August 12, 2025, in Carolina. He was born to Mary Winnagan VanDyke and the late Wilbert Chapman. Curshawn was preceded in death by his father and his beloved grandparents: Dorothy Winnagan Fenner, Tammie Rotliff, and James Jones, as well as his aunt, Doretha Jones.

Curshawn dedicated his professional life to working as a spray technician for Insulation by Cohen. He was a devoted father who cherished his children above all else. Curshawn had a passion for dancing and singing, and he was known for his willingness to help others, no matter the task at hand.

He leaves behind a loving family including his mother, Mary VanDyke, and stepfather, Qadree VanDyke. Curshawn is survived by his two sons, Savown Cook and Ahmir Gregory, and daughter, Nahla Paige. He was a proud brother to Lamon Winnagan, Wilbert Harris, Jose Lopez, Brandon Faulkner, and Nidar Abney (his best friend, Slinky), along with his sisters Tomika Harrington, Satina Dennis, Shawndell Harris, Tracey Davis, Tiffany Lopez, and Chondle Collins. Curshawn also leaves behind step-siblings, Jaylin VanDyke, Janish VanDyke, and Jayati VanDyke. He will be fondly remembered by his special friend, Shameka Richards, along with aunts and uncles Ruby Wilson, Benita Harris, Joann Wilkins (Jamie), Shelia Ashburn, and Debrah Liberlon, as well as his great aunts, Barbara Warney and France Trawick, and a host of family and friends.

A viewing will take place from 3:00 PM to 7:00 PM on Friday, August 22, 2025, in the Melvin J. Blowe Chapel. A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, August 23, 2025, at 1:00 PM at New Mt. Joy Food for Living Ministries, where he will be laid to rest in Carver Memorial Cemetery. Professional services have been entrusted to Crocker Funeral Home, Inc., with dignity and respect.
