On Saturday, June 17, 2023, God called our beloved Craig McDaniel Stokes, Sr. to his heavenly home. Craig was born on March 22, 1956 in Suffolk, Virginia to Claudine Stokes Johnson and the late Marshall Clarke. He was raised by the late Linwood Johnson. At an early age, Craig was surrounded by love from his uncles, Richard (Jean), Joseph A, and Daniel (Lois), and his Aunt Edna (Lorenzo). He also loved the Lord and confessed Christ at Laurel Hill UCC, where he loved to sing. At Laurel Hill he was a trustee, choir member and prayer partner. Craig was educated in the public schools of Suffolk and graduated in 1975 from Forest Glen High School. He then attended Norfolk State University and still "Beholds the Green and Gold". After deciding to step into the work field. He started working at Heilig-Meyers Furniture Store, then Union Camp Corporation, and lastly Newport News Shipyard which became known as Huntington Ingalls Industries where he worked as a pipefitter x 42 until his retirement. While working, Craig also served in the Army National Guard and retired Honorably after 20 years. On December 13, 2003, Craig married the love of his life Janet and officially, became a brother to his bestfriend Randy. In this union, Craig and Janet shared many memories and adventures. Some of those adventures included, mini vacations, NFL games, NSU games, Lakeland games, Tides games, and drag racing, where he would spend the whole day standing at the fence watching the races and enjoying the fumes. Craig loved his family and enjoyed the pure joy of talking and joking with loved ones and friends. He loved to watch his westerns, Family Feud and action movies. He especially loved that God blessed him once more with his blue Chevrolet Silverado that he so desired. Craig leaves to cherish his memory his wife, Janet R. Stokes; his son, Craig M. Stokes, Jr. (Kimbry); his two daughters, Melissa D. Stokes and Jamequa D. Reid; his goddaughter, Tamara L. Cross; mother, Claudine S. Johnson; sister, Faith L. Smith (Dwayne); brother, Kelvin Johnson; two sisters-in-law, Betty R. Turner and Jeanett H. Reid; three brothers-in-law, Randy L. Reid (Lyndra), Calvin Reid and Anthony M. Reid (Donna); three grandchildren, Evangeline S. Stokes, Jaden D. Stokes and Travis D. Jordan, Jr.; grandchildren, Cadarius C. Tann; a special mom, Sarah J. Walden; two special aunts, Sarah Clarke and Gracie Eure; a special friend, Robert James; special friend and barber, Mary Hendricks (Michael); a special friend and drag racing partner, Grayson Page (Joyce); three special families, The Williams Family, The Walden Family and The Cross Family; uncles, aunts, nephews, nieces, cousins, and a host of other relatives and dear friends. A viewing will be held 12-7 p.m. Monday, June 26, 2023 at Crocker Funeral Home. A celebration of life will be held noon, Tuesday, June 27, 2023 at Laurel Hill U.C.C.
