Norfolk

Courtney White, 44, of Norfolk, Virginia passed away peacefully on August 17, 2025, surrounded by his family.

Born on August 18, 1980, in Atlantic City, New Jersey, Courtney was the son of Pastor Dan and Debra White. His early years were spent in Danville, Va. At the age of 10, Courtney along with his parents and siblings, Lorenzo and Monique, moved to Petersburg, Va., and later to the Tidewater Va. area, where Courtney continued to reside. He graduated from Booker T. Washington High School in 1999, studied at Norfolk State University, and went on to work first in the service industry and later in city infrastructure support. At the time of his passing, Courtney was employed with the City of Norfolk.

A long-time member of the Garden of Prayer No. 3 COGIC, where his dad serves as pastor, this PK had a special love for his home church. On Sunday mornings you could find him on the drums. Courtney was a constant companion to his father, driving and accompanying him to numerous ministry meetings, services and events, as well as running errands on his behalf.

Courtney was married to Keisha (Brown) White for over 16 years. He is the father of Courtney White, Jr (CJ) and Raven Brown-Lassiter, and a proud grandfather to Ashton Lassiter. Courtney was widely known for his bigger than life personality. He received others with an open heart, a welcoming smile, and big hugs and handshakes! And wow - was Courtney a conversationalist - funny, caring, and supportive. He was definitely a talker! Courtney touched the lives of everyone he met.

He is preceded in death by his longtime foster mother Gladys Carter, birth mother Cathy Gillis, and birth father Lorenza Gillis. He is survived by his children, Courtney White, Jr of Virginia Beach, Va., Raven Lassiter (Tarrell) of Chesapeake, Va., parents William Dan White of Norfolk, Va., and Debra Stokes White of Charlotte, NC, brother Lorenzo White (Jodianne) of Stafford, Va, sister Monique Williams (Victor) of Charlotte, NC, sisters Jessica Tucker, Michelle Farmer, and Sasha Palmer all of Danville, Va., one grandchild, aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, special friend Nikki Gorham, and many dear friends.

Courtney treasured his family and lived a life rooted in love and enriched by the relationships he cherished. His legacy will continue to live on in the many lives he touched.
