Cora Joyner

Cora Sue Joyner, age 86, of Suffolk, VA, was born July 7, 1938. She was a native of Suffolk, VA and she gained her wings on Tuesday, July 30, 2024 at Sentara Obici Hospital. She was the daughter of the late Claudia Barnes Joyner and the late Charlie Joyner. 

She attended Booker T. Washington High School in Suffolk, VA. She left Suffolk Virginia at young age and relocated to New York and started working as a domestic worker for years, she then moved to New Jersey and continue to the same kind of work. Joyful is the word that characterizes her love, her generosity, her friends, her friendship and her spirit. She had a spirit that would light up the room. She was the life of the party everywhere she went. Her soul was so impeccable.

She was an amazing mother to her only child, as she called her Linda Lu, mother-in-law, grandma and friend. She left a mark that will never fade away and always be present in the hearts and lives of many for whom she made a positive difference too.

She leaves to cherish her memory and mourn her loss to her predeceased by a devoted friend Chester Bradshaw, Daughter, Malinda Beamon (Thomas Beamon); Godson, Mark Williams of New Jersey; five granddaughters, Angela DeLillye (Niko DeLillye), Stephanie Mayfield (Amanda Moore), Sabrina Lott (Jessie Lott), Latoya Beamon (Antonio Edwards), Thomasine Moses (Chris Moses); fifteen great grandkids; four great-great grandkids, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

A viewing will be held 2-7 p.m. Thursday, Augusts 15, 2024 in the Melvin J. Blowe chapel of Crocker Funeral Home. A celebration of life will be held noon, Friday, August 16, 2024 at New Mt. Joy Food for Living Ministries. She will be laid to rest in Holly Lawn Cemetery. Professional services with dignity have been entrusted to Crocker Funeral Home, Inc.
