Clifford H. "Sonny" Diggs, Sr., 96, of Portsmouth Blvd, Suffolk, Virginia transitioned Tuesday, April 18, 2023 at his residence. Born August 24, 1926, to the late Hezekiah Diggs and Sarah Diggs, Clifford was the 7th of 8 children. He was affectionately known as Sonny, Uncle Sonny and Pop. Besides his parents he was preceded in death by his wife, Geraldine Diggs; son, Clifford, Jr.; grandson, Terence Alston; four sisters, Doris, Bessie, Rosa and Vivian; three brothers, George, Edward and Horace. Clifford accepted Christ at a young age and became a member of Oak Grove Baptist Church. Throughout the years Clifford developed a hobby of growing fresh vegetables and giving them out to members of his community. He would also go fishing with the "fellas" and when he couldn't fish he loved to sit on the porch and listen to people "talk trash". Clifford enlisted in the Navy and enjoyed his time thoroughly. When his service time had come to an end he became a Brick Mason and was also employed at the Norfolk Naval Shipyard. After many years of faithful and dedicated service he retired and took a job in security. At a young age Clifford married Virginia Mazell from Saratoga and they had three lovely children. Later in life, he met and married the love of his life Geraldine Jordan Diggs. Clifford leaves to cherish his memories two daughters, Sandra Watkins (Shepherd Watkins) and Gwendolyn Anderson; three grandchildren, Telisa Alston, Tyrell Anderson and Turhan (Kia) Anderson; grandchildren; great grandchildren; great-great grandchildren; stepchildren; special friends, and a host of other relatives and friends. A special "thank you" to Mazie and Michael Ford for consistently providing home cooked meals, Dr. Reon and Sentara Home Hospice team. A celebration of life will be held noon, Friday, April 28, 2023 at Oak Grove Baptist Church. He will be laid to rest in Carver Memorial Cemetery.
