Born in Ivor, Virginia, to the late Johnnie and Marie Hucks, Claudia, known as “Shane” to family and friends, was raised in a loving and Christian home. This extraordinary experience profoundly shaped her commitment to equality and public service for the rest of her life.
After her internship at the King Center, Claudia returned to New Jersey for a brief period before returning to Virginia, where she worked as a social worker in Isle of Wight County, Virginia, before her retirement.
