Clarence Hamlin

Clarence Hamlin, affectionately also known as “CJ”, peacefully entered eternal rest at Nansemond Pointe Rehabilitation and Nursing in Suffolk, Virginia on April 24, 2023. He was born on February 20, 1960 to the late Robert Lee Hamlin Sr. and late Sarah Murphy Hamlin. Clarence attended Suffolk Public schools and graduated from Forest Glen High in 1978. During his high school years, he was very active with basketball and football. After high school he played basketball with the Isle of Wight County Recreation League. Clarence worked at Union Camp in Franklin, Virginia for several years. In 1988 Clarence started at Howmet Aerospace in Hampton, Virginia where he remained until his health began to decline. Shortly after high school, Clarence married Grace Hardy. From this union two children were born. Later, he married Shelia Hill and they had one son. During his lifetime he was an avid sports fan. He was a dedicated fan to then Oakland Raiders now Las Vegas Raiders. Clarence enjoyed living life on his terms and his way. Clarence is preceded in death by both his father Robert Lee Hamlin Sr and his mother Sarah Murphy Hamlin. Left to cherish his memory, one daughter and two sons, Chevon Jefferson and Clarence Hamlin Jr. both of Portsmouth Virginia; Jemelle Anthony Hill of Omaha, Nebraska. Three brothers and two sisters. Robert Jr, James, and Curtis Hamlin and two sisters, Jeanett Reid and Diane Hamlin. He was loved by 7 grandchildren and a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, and nephews which includes a special Aunt Bessie Lawrence of Chesapeake Virginia. A viewing will be held from 10am-11:45am, followed by the memorial service at 12 noon at Crocker Funeral Home, Inc 900 E Washington Street Suffolk Virginia 23434.
