Obituary of Clarence Odell Foster, Jr.
On December 16, 1944, Clarence Odell Foster and Jennie Fulgham Foster were blessed with the birth of a bouncing baby boy. Overflowing with pride, they named him Clarence Odell Foster, Jr., in honor of his father. From the very beginning, his parents knew there was something special about him. He brought joy wherever he went and was lovingly given the nickname “Bubbie.”
At an early age, Clarence accepted Jesus Christ as his personal Savior and united with his family at Gilfield Baptist Church, a place he deeply loved and faithfully supported throughout his life.
Clarence began his education at Rosenwald School and later transferred to and graduated from Hayden High School in Franklin, Virginia. While at Hayden High School, he was a standout football star and shared his melodious voice as a member of the school choir. After graduation, Clarence continued his education at St. Paul’s College for two years before transferring to Wagner College on Staten Island, New York, where he earned his degree.
Clarence was gainfully employed with the New York City Urban League. During this time, he met the love of his life, Betty Boone, who was also employed by the City of New York. Their paths crossed, and it was truly love at first sight. Clarence asked Betty to marry him, and she joyfully accepted. Their union was blessed with two wonderful children, Clarence Rydell Foster and Cheri O. Foster.
Clarence was later drafted into the United States Army, where he served three years of active duty. His leadership and character were evident throughout his service, and he completed his military service with honor, attaining the rank of Lieutenant Clarence Odell Foster, Jr.
A man of many gifts, Clarence was also a published author. Though his third book remains unfinished to us, we are comforted in knowing that he is continuing his writing in heaven.
On December 29, 2025, God saw that Clarence had completed his earthly assignment and gently called him home. Rest well, dear brother. You were deeply loved and will be greatly missed.
Clarence leaves to cherish his memory his devoted wife of 56 years, Betty F. Boone Foster; his son, Clarence Rydell Foster; his daughter, Cheri O. Foster; his brother, Kerry Foster; his sisters, Sandra Hamlin and Mary White; his sisters-in-law; a devoted cousin, Carol Joe Neclos; and a host of loving nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends.
A celebration of life will be held 11:00am, Wednesday, January 7, 2026 at Gilfield Baptist Church. Mr. Foster will be laid to rest in the church cemetery. Professional services with dignity have been entrusted to Crocker Funeral Home, Inc.
