On Tuesday, April 16, 2024, the Lord in his infinite wisdom visited Sentara Leigh Hospital to receive his beloved son, Chris Arnold Steward. Chris was born on July 5, 1966 in Suffolk, VA to Betty Jean Steward and the late Paul H. Steward, Sr. He was predeceased by his father, his paternal grandparents, Paul Steward and Nettie Louise Berry Steward, and his maternal grandparents, Walter T. Woodson, Sr. and Lelear Betty Rawls Woodson. Chris accepted Christ at an early age at Mt. Siani Baptist Church, and later rededicated his life and became a member of Pleasant Grove Baptist Church. He graduated from Deep Creek High School in 1985. He served briefly in the U.S. Army National Guard, until he was discharged in 1990. Chris then became employed with his father and older brother as a mechanic at Paul’s Auto Service, Suffolk, VA until his father’s illness. He continued his career as a mobile mechanic until his untimely demise earlier this year.
Chris was a loving son, brother, uncle, father, grandfather, and friend, who loved to cook, to work on vehicles, but above all, he loved to love on his family. He leaves to cherish his memories, his mother, Betty Jean Steward of Suffolk, VA; his three sons, Christopher Johnson of Chesapeake, VA; Donta Steward (LaQuita) of Chesterfield, VA; Delonta Watts (Lianie) of Norfolk, VA; four daughters, Ebony, Kris, and Jackeeta Steward, all of Newport News, VA; Paula Steward of Richmond, VA; three sisters, Cynthia Sugars (Darrell) of Newport News, VA; Michelle Steward of Chesapeake, VA; and La’Tonya Steward of Suffolk, VA; three brothers, Paul Steward, Jr., and Brian Steward (Tamgie), both of Suffolk, VA; and Rodney Steward (Keysha), of Portsmouth, VA; twelve (12) grandchildren, several aunts and uncles, along with a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, family and friends.
