Charlotte Marie Hunt-Bates

April 16, 1936 — January 14, 2022

Charlotte Marie Hunt Bates, was born the third child of Doris Reddick Hunt and Richard Hunt in Nansemond County (Suffolk), VA. Charlotte was educated in Nansemond County Public Schools. She furthered her education at Norfolk Vocational Technical School earning the license for Practical Nursing. She was employed by Brent Lox Hall Chesapeake as a nursing manager as well as Maryview Nursing Center, Suffolk, VA. Mrs. Bates retired from the nursing profession after thirty years of dedicated service. Charlotte's hobbies included cooking and sewing. Her signature state were her hats! Mrs. Bates was a faithful member of East End Baptist Church for many many years. Her love for family and a desire to be of assistance, inspired her to join Perfected Praise Worship Outreach Ministry Full Gospel Baptist Church in Franklin, VA. with family. There she faithfully served as a Deaconess, Hospitality Committee member, Women of Worth Ministry, Lead-Servant for Nurse's Care Ministry and healthy Church until her health began to decline. Her favorite scripture 11 Chronicles 7:14 "If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land." Charlotte leaves to cherish her memory, two sisters, Doris Elizabeth Johnson and Barbara Ann Beale. In addition, two sons, Stanley P. Bates and Herbert Bates, Jr.; two daughters, Wanda D. Bates and Danatte Bates Bailey (Thomas). She was a the grandmother of seven and great grandmother of eleven. She leaves behind a host of nieces, great nieces, nephews, great nephews relatives and friends. A viewing will be held 4-7 p.m. Wednesday, January 19, 2022 in the Melvin J. Blowe Chapel of Crocker Funeral Home. A celebration of life will be held 12:30 p.m. Thursday, January 20, 2022 in the Melvin J. Blowe Chapel. She will be laid to rest in Nansemond-Suffolk Cemetery.
