Charlie E. Reid, Jr.

December 3, 1928 — September 23, 2025

Charlie Edward Reid, Jr., or Big Charlie, as his late wife affectionately called him, transitioned peacefully in his home surrounded by his children on September 23, 2025.

Mr. Charlie spent 96 wonderful years on Earth as a resident and community figure in the city of Suffolk. Mr. Charlie spent 47 of those years as a dedicated supervisor at Norfolk Shipbuilding- Berkeley Yard, where he would later retire.

Mr. Charlie was born on December 3, 1928, to the late Charlie and Erma Reid. At the age of 21, he married his loving wife, the late Elsie Harrell Reid, also of Suffolk. Together they raised 10 children. Those left to cherish his memory and continue his legacy are Brenda Collins (James Norfleet) of Windsor, Virginia, Charlie Reid Jr, Lonnie Reid, Linda Eure, Milton Reid (Gloria Emmanuel), Elsie Richardson (Dennis Richardson), all of Suffolk Virginia, and Jimmy Reid (Auset Reid) of Baltimore Maryland.

Mr. Reid was pre-deceased by his wife, Elsie Harrell- Reid, two sons, James Anthony Reid, Kenneth Lee Reid, and his daughter, Crystal Arlene Reid-Sessoms.

Mr Charlie enjoyed his long lived life and delighted in many activities including dressing up in his suits, entertaining family and friends in his backyard, caring for his lawn and garden, watching his favorite team, the Dallas Cowboys, play football, playing and winning the lottery. Most of all, Mr Charlie loved celebrating his favorite holiday, Christmas. He loved decorating his tree and hanging lots of lights especially icicle lights, which he would leave up all year. At any given moment during this holiday, you could find Mr. Charlie listening to his favorite song, "Bells will be ringing."

Big Charlie's Life and legacy will live on through a plethora of grand, great grand, and great great grandchildren, his brother William Slim Reid a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, Family and Friends. Also a special neighbor of many years Ms. Anna Kindred.

A public viewing will be held 3:00-6:00pm, Friday, October 3, 2025 in the Melvin J. Blowe Chapel of Crocker Funeral Home, Inc. A celebration of life will be held 1:00pm, Saturday, October 4, 2025 at West End Baptist Church, 501 W. Washington Street, Suffolk, VA 23434. Mr. Reid will be laid to rest at Carver Memorial Cemetery. Professional services with dignity have been entrusted to Crocker Funeral Home, Inc.
