On August 28, 2025, God called Charles “Jack” Slaughter Sr to eternal rest, while surrounded by family and loved ones. Jack was born on March 16, 1940, in Ahoskie, North Carolina, to the late Jessie Lee Slaughter and Fannie Mae Riddick-Slaughter.
He moved to Suffolk, VA, at an early age and attended East Suffolk High School.
It was in Suffolk that Jack found the love of his life, Lois “Ann” Slaughter. Their union on August 31, 1962, was a testament to their love, lasting almost 63 years. From this love story, four children, Joyce, Karen, Charles Jr, and Tracey, were born, each a testament to their enduring bond.
Jack's faith was a cornerstone of his life. He accepted Christ at a tender age and his devotion never wavered. A member of Greater First Baptist Church of Orlando, he later joined the New Jerusalem Church of God in Christ in 1967. It was here that he was filled with the Holy Spirit. His service was unwavering, as he was ordained as a Deacon, sang in the choir, became a Sunday school teacher, and a superintendent of the Sunday school, serving faithfully for over 55 years.
He worked at Planters’ Peanut Factory, where he later retired after 30 years. After retirement, he pursued his love for fishing, became an electrician, and even dabbled in real estate. Most days, you could find Jack hanging out in his garage, fishing, riding his motorcycle with his “Riding for Christ” crew, or lending a helping hand. He also loved spending time at the East Suffolk Recreation Center.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Lois “Ann” Slaughter; his children, Tracey Slaughter, Charles Slaughter Jr., and Karen Slaughter-Bullock
He leaves to mourn and cherish his memories to his daughter, Joyce Slaughter-Bynum (Lance) of Randallstown, Md; two grandchildren, Sheniqua Bynum of Randallstown, Md and Darius Bullock of Suffolk, Va; two brother-in-laws, Rev. Lemuel Greene (Judy) and Clyde Edmond (Mary) both of Suffolk, Va; a son-in-law, Daniel Bullock of Suffolk, Va; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
