On Sunday, September 13, 2020, God sent an angel to Concordia Transitional Care and Rehab-Nansemond Pointe and silently carried our beloved brother and uncle Charles E. Jones, home to be with him. He was born in Nansemond County, Virginia to the union of Christener W. Jones Hicks and Joseph P. Jones. He was preceded in death by his sisters: Pecolia J. Williams, Carolene J. Boone, Viola J. Johnson and Flossie H. Bailey. Brother: Joseph P. Jones. Step sisters: Florine Hicks, Gracie Bullock and Viola Barnes. Step brothers: John Lee Hicks, Arthur Hicks, Clarence Hicks, Herbert Hicks, Edward Hicks and Howard Hicks. Charles E. Jones was a graduate of East Suffolk High in 1950, he graduated with his BS degree from North Carolina A&T in 1955, earned a Masters Degree at Randolph Macon in 1973, and numerous certificates from William and Mary, Norfolk State and Hampton Institute. He was a member of the Omega Psi Phi Fraternity. He taught in the Suffolk Public Schools for 30+ years as a math and Physics Teacher. He was a Jr Football Coach, Mentor Decorator and Photographer. He was a member of Tabernacle Church in Portsmouth, VA. He leaves to cherish his memory, sister Dorothy H. Jackson, two devoted nephews: Joseph T. Johnson and Charles E. Johnson. He leaves a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and devoted friend Lois Wiggin, and friends. A visitation with family will be held 2p.m.-7p.m. Saturday, September 19, 2020 in the Melvin J. Blowe Chapel of Crocker Funeral Home. Viewing will be held 11-1:30 p.m. Sunday, September 20, 2020 in the Melvin J. Blowe Chapel. A graveside service will be held 2:00 p.m Sunday, September 20, 2020 in Carver Memorial Cemetery. Professional services with dignity have been entrusted to Crocker Funeral Home, Inc.
