Carroll Evonne Walker Avery was born on October 16, 1943, in Hobson, Virginia. On June 8, 2026 she transitioned to eternal rest. She was preceded in death by the love of her life, John Anthony Avery, her beloved parents, Dorothy and Bennie Walker, Jr.
Carroll was a proud graduate of East Suffolk High School, Suffolk, Virginia, Class of 1962. Upon graduation, she was eager to go to New York City and start her career as an Administrative Assistant. Carroll dedicated more than 30 years of her career to Jerry Della Femina and Travisano, a prominent advertising agency in Manhattan, where her hard work and reliability earned the respect and admiration of all who knew her.
On April 27, 1974, Carroll married the love of her life John Avery, in Brooklyn, New York. Together they shared fifty-one beautiful years of marriage, building a life rooted in love, laughter and family.
Carroll is survived by two sons, Derrick Avery (Tanya) and Terence Avery; three treasured grandchildren, Aidan, Brendan and Nadia Avery; brother, Bennie Walker (Arlene); niece, Michelle Chapman; nephew, Tyrone Chapman (Pat), two great-nephews, Fabian Dulin and Tyron, Jr.; great-niece, Raven Belford and great-great nephew, Chance Dulin, and a host of aunts, cousins and friends.
Carroll will be remembered for her warm smile, kindness, love of soap operas, elegant fashion her strong faith and commitment to the Lord, and the happiness she found with her family and beloved dog, Megan, aka "Missy Avery". She was a devoted wife, proud mother, and loyal friend who presence brought light, laughter,a nd joy to all who knew her. Though she is no longer with us in body, Carrroll's legacy of love, courage and laughter will continue to live on in the hearts of all who knew her.
A viewing will be held 12-3 p.m. Thursday, June 18, 2026 at Crocker Funeral Home. A celebration of life will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, June 20, 2026 in the Melvin J. Blowe Chapel of Crocker Funeral Home. She will be laid to rest in Albert G. Horton, Jr. Memorial Veterans Cemetery.The family has entrusted Crocker Funeral Home, Inc. with services rendered with dignity, compassion, and care.
