In the early hours of December 14, 2020, Carrie H. Yates transitioned to be with the Lord. She was born on August 24, 1918 to Tony and Fannie Hall and was married to the late George C. Yates. She was preceded in death by three brothers and two sisters. She is survived by three children, Tunisia Hill of Suffolk, VA, Carnell Holland of Brandywine, MD, and Joseph P. Hall of New York City; four grandchildren; seven great grandchildren and nine great-great grandchildren; god daughter, Jovannah Copeland, and numerous relatives and friends. Carrie dedicated her life to being a fantastic and wonderful mother and grandmother. She was a life-long member of St. Matthews Holiness Church in Suffolk, VA where she served in numerous positions including, church secretary and treasurer, and served as the secretary for the National Convention for many years. She was best known for her hospitality, and she loved cooking and serving others. Everyone wanted to eat at Aunt Carrie's house as she always had the best food in town. When she wasn't serving others she was devoted to her church and church family she loved the Lord and didn't mind letting you know. Her famous words until she spoke no more were "Can't nobody do you like Jesus". During the last several years she was confined to her home but was blessed to have two family friends, Doris Eure and Virginia Lewis, and her God-daughter, Jovannah Copeland, who were always willing to assist us with her care. We know that she loved and appreciated them. A graveside service will be held noon, Saturday, December 19, 2020 in St. Matthews Holiness Church Cemetery. Rev. Dr. Madelene F. Beard (Galatians United Church of Christ) will deliver the message of comfort. Professional services with dignity have been entrusted to Crocker Funeral Home, Inc.
