Carolyn Yvonne Powell

Carolyn Yvonne Powell, 63, of Spencer Court, Suffolk, transitioned Wednesday, October 24, 2018 at her residence. She was the daughter of Lucy M. Rawlings and Thomas Rawlings. She was preceded in death by two sisters, Kathy Bivins and Ada Thorpe and her biological father, Sylvester T. Thorpe.Carolyn was employed with Tidewater Occupation Center and a member of New First Baptist Church for 63 years.Besides her parents Lucy and Thomas Rawlings, she leaves to cherish her memory six sisters, Debra Boone of Patterson, NJ, Lynette Asenio (Steve) of Chesapeake, Brenda T. Parrish (Steve) of Suffolk, Debra Wright (Marion) of Franklin, Sylvia T. Baker (Wayne) of Suffolk, and Vertlene Bethly of Portsmouth, VA; four brothers, Michael E. Powell of Neward, NJ, Johnnie Griffin, Robert S. Thorpe Sr.(Lawanda), and Horace L. Powell, Jr. all of Suffolk; a host of uncles, aunts, nieces, nephews, cousins as well as friends.A celebration of life will be held 11 a.m. Friday, November 2, 2018 at New First Baptist Church, Rev. Lennis Taylor will officiate and Rev. Steven Cheeks will deliver the message of comfort. She will be laid to rest in Albert G.
