As her children grew older, Carolyn entered the workforce full-time, working at the Franklin YMCA and eventually as secretary to the Director of Personnel with the City of Franklin, Virginia. Even with all these responsibilities, Carolyn continued volunteering with various community and civic activities in Franklin and throughout Southampton County. After about thirty-five years, Carolyn retired from the City of Franklin as the Director of Human Resources in 2013.
