On Saturday morning, July 5, 2021, the Lord called his faithful servant Carey McDonald Wright, Sr., to come Home with Him to retire from his labor and rest in His arms. Carey, commonly known as “Mac,” was born on October 24, 1961 to the late Alexander Edmonds and Jeanette Boone. He was raised by his great grandmother, the late Lillian Wright. Carey received his education in the Suffolk Public School System and graduated from John Yeates High School in 1981. While in 10th grade, Carey met Darlene (the love of his life) and he wed his high-school sweetheart in 1980. After graduation, he began his career path with Terminix and then transitioned to Newport News Shipbuilding where he retired after 10 years. During his lifetime, one of his best hobbies was working on cars. He was a man of many talents and able to fix anything! Carey was a man of strong faith and was devoted to his beliefs. He was a member of Mount Lebanon C.O.G.I.C. for many years. During his time there, he was a member of the Mass Choir, Male Chorus, Usher Board, and founding member of the Audio/Visual Ministry. His favorite pastimes were watching sports, ministry broadcasts, Bewitched, Hogan’s Heroes, Andy Griffith Show, The Sopranos, The Rachel Maddow Show, and MSNBC. His favorite teams were the Washington Redskins, San Francisco 49ers, Notre Dame, and University of Virginia (UVA). To cherish his memories, he leaves his wife: Darlene Wright of 40 years, his children: Carey M. Wright, Jr., Sheena Bassett, Kenneth Allen, Lavon Walton, and Corey M. Wright; step-father: Johnny Boone, Sr.; siblings: Athalia Wright, Carmen Hall (Roderick), Lillian Green (Donald), Yvonnedria Boone, and Johnny Boone, Jr.; sister-in-law: Valerie Birden (Ernest); brothers-in-law: Melvin Wilson (Maretha) and Barry Wilson. He was also loved by a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. His favorite quote was “Words have POWER.” A viewing for the public will be held noon-7p.m. Sunday, July 11, 2021 in the Melvin J. Blowe Chapel of Crocker Funeral Home. A celebration of life will be held 11 a.m. Monday, July 12, 2021 at Balm Church-East Campus. He will be laid to rest in Carver Memorial Cemetery.
