Bruce A. Richardson, Jr. of Suffolk, VA transitioned on Wednesday, June 12, in Maryview Hospital, Portsmouth, VA.
Bruce was the son of the late Bruce A. Richardson, Sr. and Edna M. Richardson. He was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Roy Lee Richardson. Bruce was educated in the Suffolk Public School System and later served in the United States Army. He worked for Sentry Oil Company for many years as a truck driver. He retired from Parker Oil Company after 43+ years of dedicated service.
Bruce met and married the love of his life, Vivian L. Edmonds in 1968. From this union two children were born, Vivian Vannessa and Bruce A. Richardson, III. Bruce accepted Christ at an early age and joined Piney Grove Baptist Church. He became a Deacon and made a joyful noise in the Male Chorus. He was a faithful member until his health declined.
Bruce leaves to cherish his memory, his loving and devoted wife of 57 years, Vivian L. Richardson; his children: daughter, Vannessa Richardson and son, Bruce A. Richardson, III, both of Suffolk, VA; sisters, Doris White, Shirley Jean, Sandra Dildy, and Edith Harris (Irvin), all of Suffolk, VA and Phyliss Richardson of New York; five grandchildren, Brandon, Vanesha, Itaujau, Brenique, and Zykira Richardson; three great-grandchildren, Thomari, Vaniah, and Aujuati Richardson; five sister-in-laws, Deildra Picot of Suffolk, VA, Rachel Turner (Jon) of Zuni, VA, Sophia Wilson (Stacey) of Suffolk, VA, Ann Marie of Franklin, VA, and Angelina Turner (Martin) of Suffolk, VA; three brother-in-laws, James Turner of Franklin, VA, Glenn Duck of Franklin, VA, and Martin Turner of Suffolk, VA; devoted sister-in-law, Deildra Picot; dedicated cousin, R.T. Richardson; family friend, Demetrius Hamlin; and a host of nieces and nephews.
A public viewing will be held 1:00-7:00pm, Friday, June 21, 2024 in the Melvin J. Blowe Chapel of Crocker Funeral Home, Inc. A celebration of life will be held 1:00 p.m. Saturday, June 22, 2024 at Piney Grove Baptist Church. He will be laid to rest in Carver Memorial Cemetery.
