Bruce Jerome Brinson, 74, transitioned Saturday, June 15, 2024. God in his wise providence and tender mercy called our beloved father, Bruce Jerome Brinson from this earthly life of toil to his heavenly reward on Saturday June 15, 2024 athis home in Norfolk, VA. Bruce was born on November 7, 1950 in Chuckatuck and a native of Nansemond County in Suffolk, VA. Bruce was the son of the late Jabus Brinson (father) and the late Sarah Mae Jordan Brinson (mother). Bruce graduated from John Yeates High School in Suffolk, VA and went on to pursue a career in the United States Army during the time of the Vietnam War. He was awarded the National Defense Service Medal and received an Honorable discharge. Bruce was employed as a machinist for the Marcal Paper Mill Inc. in 2000 and retired in 2015 after 15 years of service. Bruce loved singing and he loved playing his guitar for the church. He was one of the original members of the Gospel group, the Motivations. His favorite gospel group was the Mighty Clouds of Joy and his favorite song by them was “Walk Around Heaven” that he often sung. Bruce was a member of Bishop Joe A. Chase, Jr.’s church, Friendship Cathedral Church of God and Christ and was in training to become a church deacon. Treasuring precious memories, Bruce’s loving partner and Fiancée Ms. Shirley Anne Warren Blount and children of Norfolk VA.; Bruce’s wife Lillie M. Brinson (deceased) of New Jersey, their adopted daughters: Victoria M. Brinson-Mann of New Jersey, Raquel Mann of New Jersey, and Angelic C. Smith of New Jersey, their adopted sons: Ricky Mann of New Jersey and, Lorenzo Mann of New Jersey, his stepchildren: Timothy Mann, Ricky Mann, Quinda Mann, Tracey Mercado, Robert Mann, and Chandora Leach.  Bruce’s brothers: Jonathan Jordan (deceased), Harold Brinson (deceased), Anthony “Tony” Brinson, Morgan “Mookie” Brinson, his sisters: Velma Wooden, Vanessa Morrison Ferguson, Bruce’s niece: Mrs. Fané Willis, his only living Aunt Eleanor Council and many family members and loved ones. Viewing will be held on Thursday, June 20, 2024 from 4p-7p in the Melvin Blowe Chapel of Crocker Funeral Home. A celebration of life will be 11 a.m. Friday, June 21, 2024 at Friendship Cathedral Church of God In Christ; 5511 Godwin Blvd. Suffolk, Va. 23434 at 11a.m.  Professional services with dignity have been entrusted to Crocker Funeral Home, Inc.
