Brenda Diann Strothers Cofield was born on January 20, 1951, to the late Annie Whitfield Strothers and the late Beacher David Strothers in Nansemond County, Virginia. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Clinton Lee Cofield, Jr., a brother Jackie Strothers, a brother Calvin Leon Strothers, Sr., a brother William Simmons, Sr., a brother Rufus Allen Strothers, Sr., and a sister Emilie Butler.
To know her was to love her. She leaves to cherish her loving memory a daughter, Dr. Felicia Cofield Brown, three stepchildren, Terrance Williams (Annette), Tyrone Williams (Freda), and Pamela Gray (Edward). Two grandsons, Jordan Sykes and Daniel Brown, and an adopted grandson, Gary White. Two sisters, Cecile Cherry and Carolyn Johnson. One brother, Rutherford Ulysses Whitfield. One brother-in- law Walliyudin Shakir. Two sisters-in-laws, Marlene Simmons, and Glorine Strothers. Special best friends Patricia Butts Thomas, Cynthia Griffin, and Jennifer Baker, many special High School classmates, and a host of cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends.
Brenda Diann Strothers Cofield graduated from John F. Kennedy High School in 1969 and Norfolk State University school of Nursing in 1989. In high school, she played basketball and was a cheerleader. Brenda retired as a Registered Nurse after 28 years at Chesapeake Regional Hospital, 15 of those years serving as the evening Charge Nurse. She was a longtime Disciple of Tabernacle Christian Church in Suffolk, VA where she served as a
Deaconess, a member of the Nursing Ministry, and the Usher Board. Brenda loved being a servant for the LORD at Tabernacle.
Brenda Diann Strothers Cofield was an advocate for education and loved to discuss and watch NFL football, especially when her team, the Indianapolis Colts, were playing. She also loved playing Women’s softball and did so for over 10 years. She adored all of her family and was consistently offering advice and encouraging family members to strive to reach their goals in life. She gave selflessly to her family and friends and was always willing to lend a helping hand.
A viewing will be held on Thursday, May 23, 2024 from 4p.m.-7p.m. A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, May 25, 2024, 11a.m. at True Gospel Ministries I Am Church. She will be entombed in Carver Memorial Cemetery's Mausoleum. Professional services with dignity have been entrusted to Crocker Funeral Home, Inc.
