Obituary for Mr. Billy Conn Johnson
Billy Conn Johnson was born on February 10, 1943, in Suffolk, Virginia, born to William and Mary Johnson. From the very beginning, Billy carried with him a gentle spirit and a joyful heart that would leave a lasting imprint on everyone who crossed his path. On November 22, 2025, Billy transitioned peacefully, surrounded by loved ones who cherished him deeply. He is now reunited with his parents and his siblings Carrie Johnson, Ethel Johnson, Shelton Johnson, William Maso Johnson, and Leon Johnson, Johnnie Johnson, Ernest Johnson who all preceded him in death.
Educated in the Suffolk school system, Billy later proudly served his country as a cook in the United States Army. His love for preparing delicious meals continued long after his service ended. Billy could often be found baking something sweet, grilling something savory, or adding broccoli to every plate—just the way he preferred it. He had a playful love for his favorite beverages, “grape Kool-Aid” and Pepsi-Cola, and took pride in the luxury cars he enjoyed over the years, particularly his stylish 1975 grey and burgundy Cadillac with white-wall rims and his unforgettable 1985 black Mercury Cougar, affectionately named “Black Beauty.”
Billy’s work ethic was strong and unwavering. He dedicated over 30 years of service to Smithfield Packing and contributed his talents to General Electric and Planter’s Peanut Company. No matter the job, Billy approached his work with consistency, pride, and a commitment that reflected the kind of man he was—steady, reliable, and devoted. Yet his greatest joys were never found on the clock; they were found at home surrounded by the people he loved. For years, his home became the heart of countless family cookouts, holiday gatherings, and summertime celebrations. Billy made sure everyone felt welcome, fed, and covered in love.
Above all, Billy was a devoted husband, father, brother, uncle, cousin, and friend. He leaves behind his faithful and loving wife, Mary Stallings Johnson, who stood by his side through every season of life. He is also survived by his children Sebrina Johnson Holloman (Lance), Sean Johnson (mother Barbara Johnson Bond), Juan Armstrong, Toshanya Tillery-Butts; brothers-in-law: Ezekiel Stallings (Nicole), Clifton Stallings Jr. (Charlene), his sister Mildred Bowers and a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends who will forever cherish his memory. Each of them carries a piece of his warmth, humor, and generosity in their hearts.
Special recognition is extended to his longtime family physician, Dr. Lindsey Vaughn, and the dedicated staff at Sentara Family Medicine on Godwin Boulevard in Suffolk, Virginia, for their many years of compassionate care and support.
As we enter life’s next chapter without Billy’s earthly presence, we trust in God to wrap our family and loved ones in comfort and peace. We pray for strength, unity, and harmony in the days ahead, knowing his life was a blessing, his memory a treasure, and his legacy will continue to shine brightly in all who knew and loved him.
