On Friday morning, September 17, 2021 God dispatched his angels to retrieve his daughter Betty Jean Milteer to her external home in glory. Betty was born on November 9, 1945 to the late Linwood and Catherine Joe. She was a graduate of East Suffolk High School. She attended Saint Paul's College. She retired from Belk Department Store. Betty, affectionately known as "Aunt Betty, " was a devoted member of First Baptist Church, Mahan Street for over 40 years, where she served faithfully as the President of the Youth Usher Board, Senior Usher Ministry, Mother's Club, Caring and Sharing, Sunday School Teacher, and several other ministries. She was a proud member of the Suffolk Chapter of Las Amigas Incorporated. Betty was preceded in death by her husband, the late Maurice Milteer and her parents, the late Linwood and Catherine Joe. Betty leaves to cherish her memory, her loving and devoted daughters, Dr. Samantha Nash (Arthur James) of Henrico, VA and Shanita Hardy (Victor) of Hampton, VA; on cherished brother, Richard Joe, Sr. (Priscilla) of Jacksonville, FL; three treasured grandchildren, Victor Hardy, Jr., Ashley Megan Gibson, and Xyra Farrah Rhodes; and a host of godchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, and beloved friends. A public viewing will be held 3-7 p.m. Tuesday, September 21,2021 in the Melvin J. Blowe Chapel. A celebration of life service will be held 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, September 22, 2021 in the Mausoleum at Carver Memorial Cemetery.
