My Soul Is Anchored in the Lord
”Betty Jean Deloatch, 73, of Wilbur Avenue, Chesapeake, VA, peacefully transitioned to her eternal rest on Monday, April 13, 2026, surrounded by her loved ones. Betty was the daughter of the late Samuel and Queen E. Bright, and the beloved wife of the late Joseph V. Deloatch.
Betty was educated in the Chesapeake Public School system. She enjoyed watching old-school black-and-white television shows and spending time talking on the phone with her children, grandchildren, and family. She was formerly employed at Ryan’s Restaurant, and after leaving, she began her own in-home daycare business. For over 20 years, she served as a dedicated neighborhood and family daycare provider. She was also a devoted homemaker.
At an early age, Betty gave her life to the Lord. She attended New Oak Grove Baptist Church under the leadership of Pastor Samuel Shaw III. She loved listening to her favorite old-school gospel music, including “It’s in My Heart” by Harvey Watkins.
Betty was loving, kindhearted, and full of humor. She would always tell you when you were right and when you were wrong. She had a giving spirit and would cook and feed anyone in need.
Betty Jean was preceded in death by her parents; her sisters, Lovvaine Simons and Annie Satterfield; her brothers, Lessel Bright and Samuel Bright Jr.; her son-in-law, Tony Shaw; her nephews, Earl Simons Jr. and Donnell Bright; and her parents-in-law, Minnie and James Deloatch.
She leaves to cherish her precious memories: her son, Darryl Bright Sr.; her daughters, Valerie Bright and Catrina Bright Hines (Bruce); her bonus son, Marco Deloatch; her sisters, Lovie Hawkins and Paula Bright(Warren) her brother, Michael Bright; her brother-in-law, Earl Simons Sr. her sisters-in-law, Deborah Joyner (Gary) and Lisa Deloatch; 16 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren. GodDaughter, Nakesha Stokes, a host of nieces, nephews, family, and friends.
Betty Jean Deloatch will truly be missed by all who knew and loved her.
