Bessie Mae Vandross

Bessie Vandross, 85, of Whitehurst Road, Gates, North Carolina transitioned Monday, March 5, 2018 at Sentara Obici Hospital. She was the daughter of the late Bessie Mae Royal and Carter Royal. She was preceded in death by her husband Harry VanDross.She retired from New York City Housing Authority in the Security department.She leaves to cherish her memory her daughter, Ruth Ann Wilkins of Gates, NC; son, Frederick Tillman of Suffolk; several grand children and great grandchildren; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.A celebration of life will be held noon Tuesday, March 13, 2018 in the Melvin J.
