Mr. Benjamin “Ben” Franklin Stokes departed this earth on Saturday, June 11, 2022, in Suffolk, VA at the age of 65. He is preceded in death by his father, Fred Stokes, his mother, Lillian Stokes, his sisters, Costella, Sandj, Vanessa, and Maxine; his brothers: Fred, Martin Lee, and Theoperaly. Ben Stokes was born on July 7, 1956 in Suffolk, VA to Fred and Lillian Stokes. Ben was raised up on the 6th Street area (East Suffolk Gardens) of Suffolk, VA and has lived in the Suffolk area all of his life. He attended John F. Kennedy High School and later went to Job Corps. He loved sports mainly football and he definitely loved and practice Karate. He was very smart, he enjoyed reading books, and being a helping hand and assisting others when needed. In addition, his favorite enjoyment was hanging out in the barbershops and drinking “grape sodas”. Ben was well known in Suffolk and will be missed greatly. Ben leaves to cherish his memory his daughter, Venus Earley (Derrick); his grandchildren, Kianna Watkins, Keasia Watkins-Earley, Derrion Lamar Watkins-Earley; his great-grandchildren, Sincere McLaurin, Norie McLaurin; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and other relatives and friends. Special thank you to “ALL” of his caregivers. A viewing will be held 1-6 p.m. at Balm Church East Campus, 523 E. Washington Street, Suffolk, Virginia. A celebration of life will be held 11am, Saturday, June 18, 2022 in the Melvin J. Blowe Chapel of Crocker Funeral Home, Inc.
