Beatrice W. Reeves

Beatrice W. Reeves, 94, of 1203 Truman Road, Suffolk, transitioned on Saturday, January 26, 2019 at Concordia Transitonal Care-Nansemond Pointe. She was born March 23, 1924 in Nansemond County, now the City of Suffolk. She was the daughter of Margaree W. Boone and stepfather Troy Boone. She was predeceased by her parents, husband William E. Reeves, brothers, John J. Boone and Thomas Lee Boone. Beatrice received her early education at Rosenwald School and East Suffolk High School. She furthered her education obtaining a Bachelors of Science Degree in Elementary Education from Elizabeth City State Teachers College, now Elizabeth City State University. She received her Master of Arts Degree from New York University. She was a dedicated educator for over 50 years, teaching in Southampton County, before retiring from Suffolk Public Schools. Affectionately known as Beatrice, "Tencie", Bea, Mrs. Reeves, she was a member of Canaan Baptist Church. She served in the Senior Choir, J.E. Arrington Senior Choir, Gospel Choir, Deaconess, New Ideal Working Club, Missionary Circle, Sunday School, Primary Sunday School Teacher, Tutoring Program, Tithes Secretary, Pastor's Aide and was a member of the Mother's Board.  Community activities include:Smart Set Club, FAHOCHA Club, National Association for Advancement of Colored People(N.A.A.C.P) and the Virginia Education Association. She leaves to cherish her memory, sister, Cleopatra B. Harper, nephew, Daryl A. Boone (Bonita), nieces, Arthalia Denise Kahan (Vernell), Barbara Reeves, Tanya B. Cyrus(Daryl), sister-in-law, Geraldine Reeves, brother-in-law, Ronnie Reeves, great nephews, great nieces, many cousins and friends. A celebration of life will be held noon, Thursday, January 31, 2019 at Canaan Baptist Church, 2064 Nansemond Pkwy, Suffolk. She will be laid to rest in Canaan Baptist Church Cemetery.
