On Friday morning, July 22, 2022, angels were dispatched to Suffolk (Buckhorn) Virginia to usher in a servant, our beloved Arthur (Dickie) Mckinley Richardson. With his family by his side, he peacefully entered eternal rest. He was 85 years old and was the son of the late James Matthew Richardson and Permilla Hite Richardson. He was preceded in death by his grandson, Jonathan Spratley, brothers Johnnie Richardson, Lonnie Richardson an sister Ollie Hicks. Dickie retired from Newport News Shipyard after 30+ years of dedicated service. He was an active member of Piney Grove Baptist Church, Buckhorn, Virginia where he formerly held the position of Sunday School Superintendent and Vice President of the Usher Ministry. He was an active Usher, always serving faithfully and with a passion. Having a watchful eye observing to see who in the congregation needed assistance and what usher needed some accommodations. He leaves to cherish his memory his devoted and loving wife of 62 years, Della Richardson. Three children, Nathan McKinley Richardson and Permilla Spratley (Micheal) of Suffolk, VA and Alvonda Savage (Carl) of Glenn Allen, VA. One bonus son Brian Holliman (Natalie) of Suffolk, Virginia. One loving sister, Mamie Griffin of Hartford, CT. Six grandchildren, James Spratley, Jade Richardson, Jason Spratley, Marlon Richardson, Justin Savage and Marlisa Artis. Two bonus grandchildren, Janelle and Joshua Spratley. Seven great-grandchildren, Ayania, Kahlil, Kai (better known to her grandpa as Tai), Jamarcus, Kaylon, Kae'cion and Jahsir. Two godson, Reginald Holliman, Jr. (Tinera) and Taylor. A special cousin Queen (Queenie) Hunter and a special Buckhorn Community daughter Shirron Edwards. Three sisters-in-law, Mary Harvey, Willie Watts and Denise Sherrod (Bernell). One sister-in-law, Francis Smith; Six brothers-in-law, Lorenzo Holliman (Vicky), Ronald Holliman, Herman Holliman, Reginald Holliman, Sr. (Patricia), James Holliman (Marlene) and Michael Holliman (Gail). A viewing will be held 2-7 p.m. Thursday, July 28, 2022 in the Melvin J. Blowe Chapel of Crocker Funeral Home. A celebration of life will be held noon, Friday, July 29, 2022 at Piney Grove Baptist Church, 4901 Deer Path Road, Suffolk, Virginia. Rev. Larry Parker will deliver the message of comfort.
