Annie P. Hicks

January 4, 1927 — August 24, 2021

On Tuesday, August 24, 2021, our beloved mother, sister, grandmother, great-grandmother, aunt, cousin and friend was called home rest beside her late husband. Annie was born January 4, 1927 to the late Ozie Lee Porter and the late Annie Mae Glover Porter. Annie was married to the late George Lee Hicks for 61 years (he affectionately referred to her as "my little wife"). She is the mother of two daughters and one son. God blessed her to see seven grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren before her passing. Annie was a faithful, lifelong member of Christian Home Baptist Church. She was always ready to do God's work and served in several capacities and she especially enjoyed the work as Minister of Missions. On Thursdays, you would find her at CHBC and the rest of the week at East Suffolk Recreation Center for the Senior Citizens Groups. When the Covid pandemic hit, she was unable to attend her beloved church; but watched services on the computer. She was blessed to return to church for the second Sunday in August for her final service. Annie attended Oakland Elementary School and graduated from East Suffolk High School. She graduated from Obici Hospital School for Licensed Practical Nursing. She drove School Bus 64 to Oakland Elementary School for several years and retired from Maryview Hospital where she worked as a LPN. Annie leaves to remember her a son George Eugene (Elaine) of Suffolk, VA; her daughters, Barbara (Richard) Copeland, of Suffolk, VA; and Selma Curry of Indian Land, SC; one brother, S. Eugene (Cherry) Porter of Suffolk, VA. She also leaves seven grandchildren, Richard (Oonina) Copeland; Rhonda Curry; Kandree (Akin) HIcks-Dorsett; Delwyn (Jacie) Hicks; Michael (Monica) Curry; Ronald Copeland (Lahna) and Donald (TaVonne) Copeland; and eight great-grandchildren and three sisters-in-law. SHE WILL BE MISSED! A viewing will be at in the Melvin J. Blowe Chapel of Crocker Funeral Home 3-6 p.m. Saturday, August 28, 2021. On Sunday her mortal remains will lie in state from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 a.m. and a celebration of life will be held 1:00 p.m. at Christian Home Baptist Church. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Christian Home Baptist Church in memory of Annie P. Hicks. Professional services with dignity have been entrusted to Crocker Funeral Home, Inc.
