Annie Bell Knight

In the early morning hours on Friday, July 3, 2020, God peacefully called his servant child Annie Bell Knight to her celestial home. Annie Bell Knight was born on March 10, 1927 the 3rd of 11 children from the union of the late Kenwood & Essie Faulk.. Annie was educated in the Suffolk Public School System before assuming a more vital role working on the family's farm. In September 1945 she was married to the late Rev. Dr Raby Johnny Knight. They were married for 48 years until his death in May 1993. Annie Bell worked several jobs throughout her life. She was employed by Planters Manufacturing Company as a factory worker. She also worked at George & Steve's Steakhouse as a cook, Haywood's Dry Cleaners as a presser and lastly with the City of Portsmouth at the Portsmouth Public Library until retirement. Annie retired in 1993 after 19 years of service. Annie accepted Christ at an early age joining Piney Grove Baptist Church, Suffolk, Va. Annie maintained membership with Piney Grove Baptist until death. As an 85 year member of the church, Annie Bell was passionate about staying on the financial rolls by paying her tithes. Annie Bell was an important component of her husband's calling into ministry. She served as 1st Lady of Sandy Mount Baptist Church, Messiah Baptist Church, Newport News, VA, Goodwill Baptist Church where she was also a co-founder and Mt. Ararat COGIC, Suffolk, VA. Throughout Annie's life she served valiantly in any capacity asked. She was active on several of the church's auxiliaries until her age prompted less involvement. Annie Bell was very good with her hands. She enjoyed growing and nurturing plants into full maturity. She became so good with plants that she was once featured in the Virginian Pilot regarding her prowess with plants. Annie was an excellent seamstress. In addition to these hobbies, Annie Bell had superb cooking skills. Her famous homemade rolls were a family favorite. As Annie aged she became more enamored with her grand and great grandchildren. You could find her with any one of them sharing a laugh. Annie Bell Knight is survived by 5 children, James A. Vaughan (Sue) of New York, NY, Andrea M. Vaughan of Suitland, MD., Vickie A. Knight of Charlotte, NC, Dr. Carolyn Brown-Walker (Dwayne) Smyrna, DE and Vincent J. Knight (Stephanie) of New Castle, DE. She also leaves behind 9 grandchildren, 18 great grandchildren and 1 great great grandchild. Annie Bell leaves to mourn her loss 1 brother Linwood Faulk (Merline) who was like a sister/best friend and 1 sister Ellen Brown. Left to grieve Annie Bell's presence is a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. A celebration of life will be held 1:30 p.m. Friday, July 10, 2020 in the Melvin J. Blowe Chapel of Crocker Funeral Home. She will be laid to rest in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens. Professional services with dignity have been entrusted to Crocker Funeral Home, Inc.
