On May 2, 2021, God gently whispered to Alvin McCoy Vann, Sr. "job well done" and receive your crown of peace. Alvin was born on July 02, 1939 in Portsmouth, Virginia to the late Estelle Towns and the late Graves Vann. He was a graduate of East Suffolk High School and studied at St. Leo University. He retired from the United States Marines after 20 years of service. He was a former member of Union Baptist Church (Shoulder's Hill) and later joined his wife at Canaan Baptist Church, where he served faithfully until May 02, 2021. He was a member of the Men's Ministry, Sunday School and Tutoring Ministry. Alvin leaves to cherish his memories: his loving wife, Yvonne C. Vann of the home; two sons-Alvin M. Vann, Jr., Colorado Springs, Colorado and Anthony M. Vann, Richmond, California; one grandson-Jaiden Vann, Richmond, California; one daughter-Gwendolyn L. Caldwell (Ronald), Suffolk, VA.; two sisters-Barbara Harrell (William), Chesapeake, Virginia and Connie Jordan (Ronald), Suffolk, VA; one brother-Marvin Vann, New York, New York; two sisters-in-law-Geraldine Darden, Piscataway, New Jersey and Marie Diggs, Suffolk, VA; three brothers-in-law-Walter Darden, Jr. (Christine), Hampton, VA, Macy Darden, Richmond, VA and Shavior Darden (Wanda), Suffolk, VA; two special friends Deacon Abraham and Delores Gatling; adopted military families-Mr. and Mrs. Warren Beard, Mr. and Mrs. Tony Graves, Mr. and Mrs. Michael Williams, Mr. and Mrs. Erik Baltimore, Ms. Lisa Becoat and Son, Mr. and Mrs. James Adams, Mr. and Mrs.(deceased) Louis McClain and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. Alvin is so loved by many and will be sorely missed. A viewing will be held 2-5 p.m. Saturday, May 8, 2021 in the Melvin J. Blowe Chapel of Crocker Funeral Home, Inc. A graveside service with Military Honors will be held 2:00 p.m. Monday, May 10, 2021 at Albert G. Horton, Jr. Memorial Veterans Cemetery.
