Alton Lee Hamlin Sr. answered God’s call to rest from his earthly tabernacle early Thursday morning, April 18, 2024, surrounded by his wife and daughters. Lee born July 11, 1945, was the 2nd born of 12 to the late Bill and Susie Mae Hamlin. He was preceded in death by his four sons; Alton Hamlin Jr., Vernon Lee Hamlin, Garry Hamlin and Larry Hamlin; his sister Ernestine Beamon; two brothers Willie Hamlin, Sr. and Collin Hamlin. Also, three grandsons; Earl B. Boone Jr., Demonz M. Wilson, and Laythell Wilson; one sister-in-law Martha Ann Greene; and one brother-in-law, Arthur T. Beamon. He was a gentle heart, kind person that worked hard to provide and take care of his family. He enjoyed working outside and did so until his health began to fail him.
Lee retired from Glovers Farm and attended Nansemond County Public School. He had a love for John Deere equipment from lawn mowers to tractors. Prior to working with the Glovers’ he worked for the Moore’s and bonded with them as family. He loved Wesley and his two sons Art and Gary.
He was one that loved God, loved to laugh, and was always filled with joy.
Lee was a member of the Tabernacle United Christian Church. There he served in the male choir and was so fond of his Pastor and church family.
Lee leaves to cherish his memories: his wife Vanessa Minggia Hamlin. Two daughters; Elder Rosemary Hamlin of Richmond, VA., Sebrina Hamlin (Ray) of Portsmouth, VA. and one son Terrance Minggia (Martine) of Suffolk, Va. Three sisters; Elder Louise Watford, Mae Hall (John) and Betty Stephens all of Suffolk, Va.Five brothers; Frank Hamlin (Anita), Bishop Steaven Hamlin (Chantal), Carol Hamlin (Mary), Marvin Hamlin and Martin Hamlin All of Suffolk, Va.One sister-in-law Hattie Hamlin of Suffolk; two daughter-in-law Shenetta Williams of Suffolk, Va. and Atoya Harrell of Maryland.Five brother-in-laws; Grady Minggia, Isaac Minggia, Larry Minggia (Angela) Roy Minggia (Crystal) all of Suffolk; Anthony Minggia of New York and Timothy Minggia (Dianne) of Manassas, Va. Lee also leaves to cherish his memories a host of grandchildren, great grandchildren, a great, great grand child and a host of cousins, nieces, nephews and friends.
