On May 31, 2026, God called His faithful servant, Alphonso Lee Ricks (AL), home to eternal rest. Surrounded by the love of family and friends, he departed this life, leaving behind a legacy of faith, strength, and love that will continue to inspire all who knew him.
Born on October 15, 1949, in Southampton County, Virginia, AL was the beloved son of Jeroline Ricks Jackson and was reared by the late Perry Jackson, Sr. He was raised in a loving family and developed values of hard work, integrity, strength, and resilience that guided him throughout his life.
AL received his education at Georgia Tyler High School in Isle of Wight County, Virginia, and went to be employed for 30 years with Brown & Williamson Tobacco. After retirement, he worked for Grooms Transportation for several years, where he enjoyed transporting people to and from Atlanta's airport. He loved connecting with people from all walks of life. Through his work and service to others, he earned the respect and admiration of colleagues, friends, and community members aline.
A man of strong faith, AL was a devoted member of Union Baptist Church, where he faithfully served in the Greeters Ministry. His love for God was evident in the way he lived his life and cared for others
Beyond his professional and spiritual commitments, AL enjoyed spending time outdoors, working in his yard and on his cars. He had a passion for watching NASCAR, NHRA Drag Racing, golf, and listening to music. He also took pride in selecting the finest cowboy boots and hats to wear for any occasion. He was a member of the United Council of Corvette Clubs during the 1980s and early 1990s.
His love or Corvettes led him to co-found the Corvette Jubilee with Thurman Shands in the late 1970s, an event that spanned more than 20 years and was held at Lake Gaston, North Carolina. The event concluded with its final car show at Shands Park in Dinwiddie County, Virginia.
Above all else, AL was a devoted father, grandfather, uncle, and friend. His strength and determination were guiding force within his family and among those around him.
Al was preceded in death by his sister Jean P. Ricks and his brother Karl Jackson. He leaves to cherish his memory: his children, April Ricks Warren and Alphonso Ricks II (Corliss); his grandchildren, Diamond Warren and Mia Warren; his beloved nephew, Lynn Ricks II (Belinda); his siblings, Perry Jackson, Jr. and Bernard Jackson; nieces and nephews; and a host of cousins, extended family members, and dear friends who will forever hold him in their hearts.
Though our hearts are heavy with sorrow, we find comfort in knowing that his life was a blessing, his memory a treasure, and his love a gift that will remain with us always.
A graveside celebration will be held 1:00pm, Friday, June 12, 2026 at Gilfield Baptist Church Cemetery. The family has entrusted Crocker Funeral Home, Inc. with services rendered with dignity, compassion, and care.
