Alphonso "Bump" Hawkins, Sr.

Alphonso Hawkins, Sr., of 1029 Cogic Square also known as "Bump" was born in Suffolk, VA on June 27, 1951. He was the son of the late Audrey Eva Hawkins and Ed Lee Hawkins. He is preceded in death by one sister: Belinda Savage four brothers: Robert Hawkins, Herbert Hawkins, Charles Oscar Hawkins, Sr., and John Hawkins from Suffolk, VA. He was educated in the Suffolk Public Schools System. He retired from Suffolk Public Works after seventeen years of service. He was also known for his construction as a cement finisher for 35 plus years. Alphonso Hawkins, Sr. was united in holy matrimony to Minister Jeanette Joyner-Hawkins for twenty-three years. They were blessed with four sons and four daughters that he loved dearly: Alphonso Hawkins, Jr. (Monique), Charles Hawkins (Shawkneequah), of Forth Worth, Texas, Jailyn Hawkins, Julius Joyner, Laquyia Hawkins (Brian), Kiara Hawkins, Jamia Hawkins, and Brittany Joyner-Gilliam (D'Carlo) of Suffolk, VA; thirteen grandchildren; two great grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends and business partners. Viewing will be held 3-7 p.m. Thursday, January 27 at the funeral home. A celebration of life will be held 1:00 p.m. Friday, January 28, 2022 at St. Paul Church.
