On August 12, 2022 in the comfort of his own home surrounded by family, God in His Infinite wisdom and according to His divine purpose and power called "Buck" to his heavenly home. Alphonsa Eley affectionately known as "Buck" was born May 18, 1939 in Surry County, VA, to the late Rochester and Nehemiah Evans. He was preceded in death by his wife of 40 years Ethel Mae Eley. Alphonsa was converted at an early age and joined Cypress Baptist Church, Surry Virginia then later moved to Ivor, Virginia and joined Mt. Sinai Baptist Church. He was a dedicated and faithful member where he served on the Senior Usher Board and would give a helping hand to any of the other ministries. Alphonsa served in the United States Army as a truck mechanic, he was honorably discharged after 2 years of service. After returning home he started working for Newport News Shipbuilding and retired in 1997 after 44 years. "Buck" was somewhat of a jokester yet had a quiet spirit. He loved being outdoors, taking care of his yard, gardening and fishing on his boat. He was also avid huntsmen and longtime member of Vickville Hunt Club. He leaves to cherish his memory step daughter; Theresa Crocker (Robert) Courtland, Virginia; stepson, Walter Crocker, Jr. (Shelia) of Windsor; five grandchildren, Ali, Janell, Marquis, La Marcaus, and Kaleb; aunt, Cotelia Newby; four cousins who he affectionately called his sisters, Ruby Eley, Thelma Eley-Wright, Gloria Eley-Epps, and Jackie Williams; a host of God children, cousins, friends and special friends, Joseph Lee Binns and Larry Binns. A viewing will be held 2-7 p.m. Friday, August 19, 2022 in the Melvin J. Blowe Chapel. A celebration of life will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, August 20, 2022 at Mt. Sinai Baptist Church, 14165 Racetrack Rd, Ivor, VA 23866. He will be laid to rest 9 a.m. Tuesday, August 23, 2022 at Albert G. Horton, Jr. Memorial Veterans Cemetery.
