Alice P. Morings

Alice Pearl Gatling Morings of 640 Dutch Rd., entered into eternal rest and peace on November 24, 2025, at Sentara Obici Hospital, Suffolk, VA. She was born in Nansemond County on November 28, 1931, to Linous and Alice Cross Gatling. She was preceded in death by her parents, 2 daughters, Hilda, who died at an early age and Ruby Morings Williams, also 2 sons, the oldest Marnell Morings and the youngest Reginald "Oukie" Morings. She was also preceded by sisters, Margaret Morings, Jessie Gatling, Gladys Benton, Ruth Edwards, and Irene Gatling, and brothers, Murry Gatling, Sr., Frederick Gatling, and Grafton Gatling, and a grandson Samuel Morings, Jr.

She attended Nansemond County Training School and received a Teachers Aide certificate from Paul D. Camp Community College in Franklin, Va., and in later years she received a Nurse's Aide Certificate from Paul D. Camp also.

Alice accepted Christ and was baptized at an early age, she was a member of St. Matthews Holiness Church on Dutch Rd., where she was the treasurer until the church closed. She was faithful in attendance and her walk with the Lord was light to others. She was a dedicated member doing whatever was called for, to keep it running. She was often seen in the kitchen cooking and serving and also cleaning when she had to. When St. Matthews closed, she attended Holland Mission with her children until her health failed.

She leaves to cherish her memory, her devoted daughter Mary Saunders,( Joe) 3 sons, Frederick Morings (Tia), Samuel Morings, Sr., and Lyndon Morings (Alfreda). She also leaves 2 sisters, Mary Johnson of Chesapeake, VA, and Luella Fitzhugh of Brooklyn, New York. She leaves several grandchildren, great grandchildren, and other relatives and friends.

A viewing will be held on Wednesday, December 3, 2025, 11:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m., and her service will follow beginning at 1:00 p.m. in the Melvin Blowe Chapel of Crocker Funeral Home. She will be laid to rest in the Gatling Family Cemetery in Gates, NC. Professional services with dignity have been entrusted to Crocker Funeral Home Inc.
