Albert Lee Copeland transitioned from this life into eternal rest on Sunday, October 28, 2019. He was born on July 21, 1949 to Elsie B. Copeland and the late Nelson T. Copeland, Sr. in Murfreesboro, North Carolina. Albert received his education from Suffolk Public Schools, and was a 1968 graduate of John F. Kennedy High School. After attending Norfolk State College (University), he enlisted in the United States Army and served a tour of duty in Vietnam. Albert accepted Christ at an early age and became a member of Piney Grove Baptist Church (Buckhorn/Suffolk VA). The family moved to Old Norfolk Road (Nansemond Parkway), in 1965. He became a member of Canaan Baptist Church. Through the years, he served as a member of the Men’s Ministry/ Work Team, a member of the Usher Board, and served as Usher Board President until his declining health. He was known and the “Ninja Usher”. Albert always had a warm and pleasant attitude and greeted everyone he met. He was a hard, energetic and dedicated worker, and loved all. He worked with his brothers in the family business. He was preceded in death by his father, Nelson T. Copeland, Sr.mother, Elsie B. Copeland of Suffolk, VA ; one sister, Audrey C. Green of Suffolk, VA; three brothers, Raymond V. Copeland of Suffolk, VA, brother/ best friend and partner in crime Nelson T. Copeland, Jr. (Angelia) of Portsmouth, VA, and Marvin E. Copeland (Julia) of Suffolk, VA. His seven (7) nieces and three (3) nephews will miss him dearly: Angela D. Green, Ryan R. Copeland, Bequitta M. Johnson, Jay Cooper, (devoted niece) Andrea L. Kinard, whom he affectionately called “Linette”, Nashonda T. Copeland, Nekisha Y. Eason, Kimberly Giles, Kristen Eason, and Malik Cross. He was blessed to have three (3) loving aunts: Queen S. Blowe of Murfreesboro, NC; Annie S. James of Neptune, NJ; and Ethel S. Armstrong (Lennox) of Richmond, VA. He had two very close life-long friends, Cecil Baker and Sarah Sugars, as well as a host of relatives and friends. Albert loved to dance…and was always the life-of-the-party. He loved and looked forward to all of the family’s celebrations and gatherings. He WILL definitely be missed! WE LOVE YOU…Albert! Rest peacefully…‘thy good and faithful servant’. A celebration of life will be held 1:00 p.m. Saturday, November 2, 2019 at Canaan Baptist Church. He will be laid to rest in Albert G. Horton, Jr. Memorial Veterans Cemetery.
