Albert Wilbert Council,Jr.

October 4, 1944 — January 19, 2025

Suffolk

Albert Wilbert Council, Jr., of Suffolk, 80, entered into his eternal rest on January 19, 2025. He was found resting in his kitchen sitting in his chair in hopes to prepare a meal-one of his favorite past times. As the youngest of his parents' children, Albert was born on October 4, 1944 to the late Albert Wilbert Council, Sr. and Evelyn Sykes Council, both of Suffolk, Virginia.

Albert attended East Suffolk School and attended John F. Kennedy High School as a teenager. He joined the United States Army in his twenties and decided to return home to enter into the workforce by way of the Norfolk Naval Shipyard for a few years. His journey led him into the Washington, D.C. area where he would work for the U.S. Department of Treasury for nearly 12 years. Albert returned to Suffolk in 1985 to care for his elderly parents. Upon his return, Albert was blessed to start a new journey working for the City of Suffolk as a Maintenance Worker. His persistence and good job ethic earned him a position as a City Housing Inspector under the Suffolk Redevelopment and Housing Authority where he retired in 2007.

After his retirement, Albert cultivated his love for community service by supporting initiatives with the Suffolk Civic League and The Suffolk Chapter of the NAACP. He also became a devoted grandfather at the birth of his youngest grandson, LeVi by assisting in his daily activities. Albert's lifetime love for football (Washington Redskins/Commanders) and steamed crabs were constant staples in his life. Albert found his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ upon his return to Suffolk as a member of Metropolitan Baptist Church and served as a Deacon under the leadership of the late Rev. Dr. Melvin Boone. He also sung in the Male Chorus and participated in other church endeavors. In his quest to get closer to God in his later years, Albert also became connected to Grove Church of Portsmouth, Virginia.

Albert is also predeceased by his late son, Albert Leon Sebrell of Philadelphia, his sister Edith Council Jones, his brother Harry Council, Sr. and his brother William Council, all of Suffolk, Virginia. He leaves behind, his wife, Della Urquhart Council; two loving daughters, LeVisa Council Rice of Portsmouth, Virginia and LaMonica Sherie Council of Queens, New York; his grandsons, Marquis Sebrell and Khalif Sebrell of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania; and his daily heart throb, LeVi Christian Rice; and a host of nieces and nephews, many of which were like sons and daughters.

A celebration of life will be held noon, Wednesday, January 29, 2025 at Metropolitan Baptist Church. He will be laid to rest in Albert G. Horton, Jr. Memorial Veterans Cemetery. Professional services with dignity have been entrusted to Crocker Funeral Home, Inc.
