Willie Diggs, Jr.

Lovingly known to his family as "Beaver" Willie was born July 14, 1947, in Ivor, Virginia, to Willie and Irene Diggs, Sr.  He married Margaret Diggs on July 6, 1996 in Atlanta, Georgia. He graduated from North Carolina A&T University and worked for IBM for 34 years and recently retired. Willie was a member of the East Cobb Lions Club and Omega Psi Phi Fraternity. He was involved and a dedicated member of Zion Baptist Church in Marietta, Georgia where he served on the Senior Usher Board, Financial Secretary and also as Budget and Finance Secretary for many years.  Willie is survived by his wife, Margaret, his children Frederick Gibbs, Shannon (Dianne), Marlena Pope (Darda “Dee” Dove); grandchildren, Whitney Whitson and Alexis Pope,  3 great grandchildren and mother Irene Diggs,  his brothers, Larry (Joyce) Diggs;  Milton (Jeannie) Diggs; and Alan (Laverne) Diggs; his sisters, Stella Diggs and Barbara Ann Diggs, a host of aunts, uncles and  several nieces, nephews and cousins. He is preceded in death by his sons, Brian Diggs and Wendell Pope.  He was well known and respected in his local community, a very caring and compassionate person, and always putting the needs of others before his own. It was the simple things that he never took for granted, always showing his appreciation for everything in life.  Above all, Willie was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and son.  Willie was always involved in his sons' lives and supported, respected, and loved his wife unconditionally.  He was a man of strong faith, believing in the power and strength of Jesus Christ's love and the beauty and peace that would await him after his passing.   Funeral service will be on Friday, January 19th at Gilfield Baptist Church in Ivor, VA  The viewing will be at the church from 1:30 til 2:30 followed by the service.
