Claude Berry transitioned to a place of peace and eternal rest on Tuesday, January 8, 2018. he is preceded in death by his parents William and Althea Berry; two sisters, Frances Berry and Alverta Clark; three children, Elizabeth, Earl and Denise.Claude was born on Sunday, April 27, 1930. He served in the United States Army, during the Korean War, from 11951-1953 and received an honorable discharge. Upon his return to Suffolk he was employed in a different setting, but retired from Birdsong Peanuts.During his years of service and employment his one love remained constant and that was singing. His tenor voice was instrumental in the success of the singing Larks Quartet of which he was a founding member. The "Larks" were well known and respected in Tidewater (Hampton Roads)Virginia, but their talent and experience was appreciated across the country. They have several recordings to their credit in addition to countless personal appearances.Claude had a sense of humor and a smile that brought joy to all who encountered him. He had the capacity to make you smile when you were feeling down and offer compassionate support when it was needed. He did not believe in sugarcoating so is you asked for his advice you had to be prepared because his response might not have been what you expected. That honesty made him loved even more.he leaves to cherish his memory a devoted wife and companion of over forty years, Mary Lou. Mary made him her priority and was there to care for and cherish him until as committed in the wedding vows, death parted their union. From their blended family he leaves eleven children, additionally one sister, a host of grandchildren, nieces and nephews; two first cousins, with memories and many funny stories to share of their experiences with him.Claude was blessed to remain on this earth with his loved ones for eight seven years. When his eyes closed in transition there was sorrow, but also the joy of knowing that his one of a kind voice will join the heavenly choir along with that of his father and member of the Singing Larks Quartet who passed on before him. The family takes comfort in knowing that God has promised we will see him again. Rest In Peace.A celebration of life will be held 1:00 p.m. Wednesday, January 17, 2018 at Greater Sweet Beulah Apostolic Church. He will be laid to rest in Albert G.
