Lillie Silver Thompson was born in Enfield, North Carolina on July 3,1926. She was the daughter of the late Wesley Silver and Ada Ward Silver. She entered Heaven’s Gates on January 8, 2018. She was a consummate mother, grandmother, aunt, and professional. Lillie was an excellent cook and enjoyed preparing meals for her family and friends.
Lillie had an unwavering faith in God. She was a member of First Baptist Church, Mahan Street. Over the years, she was very involved with her church. She was a member of the Women’s Senior Usher Board; The Willing Worker Ministry; The Birthday Club, and the Caring and Sharing ministry. She also served as a member of the Hoffler Retirement Home’s Board.
Her professional career was at Planters for over 30 years. She was the first African American quality control specialist at Planters and a member of Local 26 Retirees Union. She was a member of the Imperial Crescent Club for over 69 years. She and her club members sponsored debutante balls for many years. Being a part of the club was one of her greatest joys.
Lillie was predeceased by her loving husband of 55 years, James E. Thompson, Sr. and by her son, James E. Thompson, Jr. She was also predeceased by her four brothers and three sisters; Odell Silver, Raleigh Silver, Wesley Silver, Jr., Walter Silver, Nellie Silver Weaver, Alice Silver Holmes, and Katie Silver Mason. Lillie is survived by her faithful daughter, Cynthia Thompson Royster. She had four grandchildren; Dr. Andrea Tillery Wilkins, Rev. James E. Thompson III (Lisa), Patrick G. Royster (Angela), and Alexis Thompson; nine great-grandchildren; three great-great grandchildren, and two sisters; Rita Silver Reid (Johnnie) and Barbara Silver Chatman, and a host of nieces, nephews, family and friends.Professional services with dignity have been entrusted to Crocker Funeral Home, Inc.
