On Monday, October 30, 2017 God called home one of his own, Joseph Linwood Jones, 50 of Suffolk, Virginia. Joseph was born November 7, 1966 in Sussex County, Virginia to Joseph and Annie Jones. He was preceded in death by his dad, Joseph L. Jones.
Mr. Jones received his formal education in the Sussex County school system. He accepted the Lord Jesus Christ as his personal savior at an early age at Wilborne Baptist Church, Waverly. He later joined First Baptist Church of Suffolk where he lived.
Joseph spent more than two decades as a supervisor at Smithfield Packing and a dedicated veteran to the Virginia Air National Guard but not before obtaining the rank of Sergeant.
Joseph who was affectionately known to some as “Joe”, “Lin”, “Joe B”, “Sgt. Jones” was just a country boy who loved gardening, planting flowers, and working on cars. He was a dedicated kindhearted family man and friend. He had an infectious smile and he could hold a conversation with anyone.
He is survived by; devoted wife, Alverta “Polly” Jones of more than two decades; one daughter, Alicia (Bakari) Pittman of Chesapeake, one son, Travis Williams of Suffolk. Also his mother, Annie Jones, Two sisters, Michelle (Lincoln) Drew and Shawanda Stanford; four brothers, Harry Williams, Corey (Monica) Jones, Calbert (Rhonda) Jones and Shawn Jones, a host of aunts, cousins, nieces, nephews, uncles, relatives and friends, among them two devoted friends Mack Nash and Michael Swinney.
The funeral service will be on Friday, November 3 at noon, First Baptist Church in Suffolk 112 Mahan Street, Suffolk, Virginia. Professional services with dignity have been entrusted to Crocker Funeral Home located at 900 E. Washington Street, Suffolk, Virginia 23434.
