Martha A. Stevens Mills was born on October 1, 1935 in Southampton County to the late Willie Ray and Martha Futrell Stevens. She was predeceased by a sister Willie Mae and brother Melvin Stevens. She departed this life on October 21, 2017 in the home of her sister Vivian, surrounded by a great cloud of witnesses.
She was united in Holy Matrimony to the late Elijah Mills and to this union was born two children.
She attended the public schools of Southampton County and because she was thirsty for biblical knowledge, she attended and completed the University of Lynchburg theology program.
She joined Rising St James Pentecostal Holiness Church in 1970 where she remained until her death. She served in various capacities to include the Mother Board, Church Secretary, Treasurer of the Senior Choir, Gospel Choir, Senior Usher Board, Missionary Circle, Sunday School Teacher, Flower Club President and District Missionary President of the Body.
She leaves to cherish her memory, son Marvin E. Mills, daughter Angela Foye, a grandson whom she reared as a son De’Angelo Mills, bonus daughter Mae Francis Jones, one granddaughter Christie Mills, one great grandson Kirstin Briggs, two great-great grandchildren, five sisters Mary Smith, Thelma Williams, Dorothy Hawkins(Don), Julie Stevens, and Vivian Stevens-Lyons (David)brother Billie Stevens, sisters-in-law Hattie Carter and Nellie Boone, a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.A celebration of life will be held 2:00 p.m. Saturday, October 28, 2017 at East End Apostolic Church, 410 East Street, Franklin, Virginia 23851. Elder Sean Gaines will officiate and Rev. Robert Wilkins will deliver the eulogy. She will be laid to rest in Southview Cemetery.
