Robert Lee Whitfield was born on November 22, 1947 to the late George Edward and Rosa Lee Whitfield. He was married to Gloria Hinton and they have 5 children, one of which is a grandchild they raised.
Robert was a kind-hearted gentleman who served his country well during the Vietnam War. During Vietnam, he was exposed to agent orange which caused many health problems, none of which stunted his witty personality and sense of humor. Robert provided life to everyone who knew him.
Even during bouts of his illness, he still cared for his mother and was at her home almost everyday. He was a loving and devoted husband and father, who cherished and supported his wife, providing her every desire. He was always ready to give a helping hand to anyone in need.
On October 5, 2017 at 3:32am, Robert Lee Whitfield went home to be with the Lord. He leaves to cherish his memories, his loving wife Gloria; two daughters, Robin S. Wilkins and Dominique Parker, both of Suffolk, Virginia; three sons, Darryl Knight, Edward Whitfield, and Ceveon Branch, all of Suffolk, Virginia; three brothers, George O. Whitfield of Washington, DC, Melvin Whitfield (Lisa), and Curtis Whitfield, Sr., (Sylvia), both of Suffolk, Virginia. He also leaves two sisters, Iris C. Barrett of Suffolk, Virginia and Mary W. Hall (Elton) of Gatesville, North Carolina; 19 grandchildren; and host of nieces and nephews who affectionately called him “Uncle Rob”; relatives and friends.
Robert also had two other brothers, Edward R. Whitfield and Sidney Earl Whitfield who proceeded him in death. A celebration of life will be held 12:30 p.m. Thursday, October 12, 2017 at Greater First Baptist Orlando. Rev. Moses Ware will deliver the eulogy. He will be laid to rest in Albert G. Horton, Jr. Memorial Veterans Cemetery. Professional services with dignity have been entrusted to Crocker Funeral Home, Inc.
