William Marion Mitchell

William Marion Mitchell, Sr., 75, transitioned at his residence on September 13, 2017. He was the son of the late Amanda Brown and William Clarence Mitchell.William graduated from East Suffolk High School and attended Norfolk State University. He retired from Norfolk Naval Shipyard after 43 years of service and was an army veteran. He loved to work and was an avid carpenter certified and licensed through Norfolk Naval Shipyard Apprentice School.William is survived by his wife of 51 years, Alice Lee Mitchell; one son, William M. Mitchell, Jr., of Portsmouth, VA; three daughters, Shanda B. Mitchell of Corapeake, NC., Sherrie R. Dawson (Kevin) of Covington, GA, Ashanti E. Ruffin (Lamont) of Suffolk, VA; one brother, Randolph Mitchell (Vernell) of Suffolk, VA; sister, Mary Lee Chapman of Suffolk, VA 11 grandchildren, 3 great grandchildren and a host of nieces,nephews, and cousins. He was predeceased by one sister, Catherine Francis, and one granddaughter Nevaeh Marion Mitchell.There will be a double homegoing celebration with Ida Chapman, mother of Alice L. Mitchell, on Monday, September 17, 2017 at Faith temple Ministries, 476 Wellons Street, Suffolk, VA 23434 at noon. Elder Dwayne Strothers will officiate and Apostle Betty Knight will eulogize the service. A private burial service will take place at Albert G. Horton Jr. Memorial Veterans Cemetery at a later date.
